Cuba
me and my fellow travelers in havana, cuba (photo by Emma McAlary for El Camino Travel)
Cuba seemed like a real beast to plan so I took a little bit of an easier route than normal by booking a 5 day trip with El Camino Travel. What a fantastic choice that turned out to be. One fun perk was that they have a photographer on hand to take photos of you throughout the trip (our photographer Emma is actually now a lovely friend of mine). Below are either things that we did on this trip or things that we could have done (and that maybe you should do when you go).
HAVANA
WHAT TO DO
El Malecon: the waterfront, go at sunset or at night, it's where lots of locals hang out and drink
Fabrica de Arte: at night for dancing in a huge art space
Floridita: for daiquiris
Wanda's Cafe Bar: for drinks
Clandestina: for shopping
Travel outside the city to Vinales (gorgeous countryside, tobacco farms, beautiful rounded limestone mountains, 2 hrs from Havana)
Hemingway's house
Antique convertible tour of the city
Fusterlandia
People watch on Plaza Vieja
Go to the beach: Playa de Este
Cafe el Escorial for coffee beans
RESTOS WE WENT TO
Casa Abel (we did rooftop drinks here, they also have dining)
Sonos Cuba (dinner in family home, big servings, lobster was amazing)
El del frente (super cute spot in old Havana, beautiful light during day, also has rooftop dining, lobster was delicious)
El Cocinero (chic spot by Fabrica, heard the ropa vieja is great here, don't get the octopus)
Porto Habana (located on 11th floor of a high rise, super tasty, one of my favorite meals, I had the ropa vieja)
Hotel Ambos Mundos (we did lunch here, rooftop has gorgeous views of the harbor and old Havana)
Rio Del Mar (right on the water in the bay, great food)
